Jan Vormann
Franco-German artist Jan Vormann (b. 1983 in Bamberg, Germany) currently lives and works between Berlin and Valdivia. Vormann is best known for his public space interventions, where he incorporates Legos in the mendings of monuments and city landscapes. “I have always sought to improve the appearance of public space in various ways, whether through graffiti or collage…As far as I can remember, I have never appreciated the grayness of cities and I’ve always wanted to give them back some color” Vormann says. Vormann studied visual arts at the Weißensee Academy of Art Berlin in Germany, and monumental arts at the Stieglitz Academy of Fine Arts in St. Petersburg, Russia. For Vormann, re-energizing and reinvigorating sites of public heritage, from monuments to ancient buildings, is his approach to providing passers-by with new perspectives of what they might be accustomed to seeing.
